iToBoS at the World Conference on Explainable Artificial Intelligence

Valetta, 17-19/07/2024.

The World Conference on Explainable Artificial Intelligence is an annual conference that brings together scientists, academics, and professionals.

Its goal to promote the sharing and discussing of knowledge, new perspectives, experiences, and innovations in eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). Sebastian Lapuschkin, leading the Explainable AI group at Fraunhofer HHI and member of the iToBoS project, co-organized the event.

Several scientists attended this year’s occurrence and contributed to the paper titled “Explainable concept mappings of MRI: Revealing the mechanisms underlying deep learning-based brain disease classification”, that uses concept-based explanations to understand the behavior of deep neural networks for brain disease classification. Similar XAI techniques are leveraged throughout the iToBoS project.

Moreover, our scientists presented a paper titled “A Fresh Look at Sanity Checks for Saliency Maps”, introducing novel sanity checks for local explainability methods.
