Dr. J. Malvehy was a speaker at the XXIV Ibero-Latin American Dermatology Congress (CILAD), held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, from November 19 to 23, 2024.
During the symposium “AI in Dermatology”, he delivered the lecture titled “Proper Validation of an Artificial Intelligence Algorithm, Ethical Implications”.
In his presentation, he discussed the importance of properly validating artificial intelligence algorithms in dermatology and explored the ethical implications of their use in clinical practice. He also highlighted the advances of the European project iToBoS, an innovative initiative aimed at developing an AI-assisted diagnostic system for the early detection of melanoma and other skin diseases.
The iToBoS project focuses on integrating multiple data sources, combining dermatoscopic images with clinical, genetic, and patient history data to provide a more accurate and personalized approach to skin cancer identification. Dr. Malvehy emphasized how this technology not only enhances diagnostic capabilities but also aids in medical decision-making, promoting a responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in dermatology.
